the darkroom

not many people know this but i had photography for about 5 years in school. the first time i was ever in a darkroom, standing over the sink and watching my pictures develop, i remember thinking, "this is it. i can see myself doing this as a career." obviously, things didn't quite work out that way.

the advent of digital cameras ruined classic photography, in my humble opinion. people are instantly gratified and the mystery/excitement of waiting for your images to come through a page is lost. i've always found working in the darkroom to be one of the most peaceful experiences in my life. someday, maybe i'll have that back.

the work that survived high school and college:

i think for the average person the digital camera provides instant gratification but from a photographer's perspective it's just a quick contact sheet.

i've spent countless hours post-processing my pics. i actually wanna go and learn film developing for medium and large-format photography.

how's life outside the arch?
